As the inaugural wheelset in the Zipp NSW Series, Zipp 808 NSW Carbon Clincher offers a new rim shape with greater aerodynamic efficiency and reduced side force as well as a new hubset for increased durability and less drag. The 808 NSW, with a rim depth of 82mm, is designed for triathletes, time trialists or any cyclist looking for increased speed and stability.

The 808 NSW represents Zipp’s more advanced technologies for tangible gains in aerodynamic efficiency and stability. The 808 NSW provides a 3-4 watt savings compared with the bench mark for excellence, the 808 Firecrest, which means an estimated 90 seconds at 40km per hour over 112 mile (180.25km) Ironman® -distance.

Zipp 808 NSW was developed using more than 40 concept studies using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) post-processing software and multiple wind-tunnel trips, including the Aerodynamic Bike Testing Facility at the ARC Wind Tunnel, a short drive from Zipp’s Indianapolis facility. Zipp 808 NSW technology has been ridden to 1-2 finishes in two world championship events. In triathlon, Jan Frodeno of Germany won 70.3® World Championships in Austria while fellow German Sebastian Kienle was second. In cycling, Velocio-SRAM Pro Cycling captured gold at the Elite Women’s Team Time Trial and Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team the silver at the UCI Road World Championships in Richmond, Virginia.

NSW Technologies:

COGNITION™ HUBSET

The Cognition™ hubset with Axial Clutch™ Technology reduces drag by disengaging the ratchet mechanism when coasting. So you can approach corners at higher speeds, and ultimately, save time. A star-flanged straight-pull hubshell design on the rear hub distributes the load placed on the hub flange away from the bearings. We’ve also developed a unique scalloped edge hubshell design for our front hub. This scalloped design maintains the bearing bore diameter when high radial spoke tension is applied. That means you get bearings that quietly stay in place, roll faster, last longer, and provide a laterally stiffer hub.

ImPress™

We’ve employed Zipp’s ImPress™ graphics technology, which prints graphics directly on the wheel, to help allow the dimples to do what they were design to do – help control vortex shedding, the rate at which air sheds off the wheel. Managing this is crucial to stability. ImPress graphics also give 808 NSW a distinctive stealthy look. 

ABLC™ SawTooth™

Our new Sawtooth dimple design consists of 12 nodes that are specifically clocked to start aerodynamic shearing at a rate of 50hz at a rider speed of 20mph. Sawtooth accomplishes this by inducing small sheet vortices that shed at a low magnitude, but at a higher natural frequency, thus decreasing the laminar bubble effect on the aerodynamically shielded side of the rim’s profile to further reduce high yaw drag and improve crosswind stability.

ZIPP808NSW

As English is not good, I'm sorry.  I ride a BMC TMR-01. I used ZIPP808 Tubular (MAXXIS Campione700×23C) and ZIPP SUPER9 Tubular (MAXXIS Campione700×23C) before using ZIPP808NSW(VELOFLEX Corsa C25 SOYO Latex).I use these mainly in flatness road, TT. On an 800m sprint test of 500W, ZIPP808NSW was slightly inferior to a combination of ZIPP808 and ZIPPSUPER9 in acceleration and highest speed maintenance. They were less than one second.As for the rigidity, both the length and the side lose to a disk. The side in particular needs a wide brakes gap for a disk. 808NZW was stable for a side wind and was relatively stable in dangerous wind to quit that I got on with the disk.The stability of the cornering is much better than 808 and the combination with the disk.808NSW front ・ rear set is higher in the limit for the side wind, but the steering when a super-9 tubular form was played for a side wind if 808 is tubular is natural.The ride comfort of 808NSW compares by 808 being tubular, and I am obstinate, but even the long distance is hard to be tiring from stability and the brakes performance at the corner.The slowdown is slow thanks to NSW HUB, too and should be quiet above all.I hear only the sound of the round tile if I choose the lubricant. Showstopper™, the decrease of the pad was early, but I protected a wheel to the maximum and showed extremely high stability for a conventional plane rim. After having gone down the slope, the appearance of the pad was kept by the clean state. The use recommended in conclusion is triathlon and a long-distance high-speed cruise of the flatness road.In the rear, 808NSW or a disk is chosen in a state of the wind. I think that it might not be necessary to buy 808 conventional carbon clinchers by an appearance of 808NSW. As both front HUB and rear HUB are considerably big, attention is necessary not to break off when I attach GARMIN speed sensor. Thank you for reading a long sentence till the last.
